Gap-fill exercise

Fill in all the gaps, then press "Check" to check your answers. Use the "Hint" button to get a free letter if an answer is giving you trouble. You can also click on the "[?]" button to get a clue. Note that you will lose points if you ask for hints or clues!
Please calculate on a separate piece of paper and just fill in the answers into this worksheet.
1. By writing each of the numbers in the form standard form, the square root
of 0.25 x 0.64 is (1 sig.fig)
2. In a group of 10 people, 7 people speak English, 4 speak French and 2 speak neither of
the two languages. The number of people who speak both languages are
3. The mean height of 10 boys is 1.60 m and the mean height of 15 girls is 1.52
m.The mean height of the 25 boys and girls is m(3sig.fig)
4.. Using a ruler, a pencil and a pair of compasses only.
i) Construct a triangle PQR such that PQ = 8 cm, angle PQR = 60o and
angle RPQ = 45o.
ii) Construct the perpendicular from R onto PQ to meet it at M. Measure
the length RM and determine the area of triangle PQR.
iii) Draw a circumcircle and measure its radius
(a) The length of RM is cm. (b) The area of triangle PQR is cm2
(c) The radius of the circumcircle is cm(1d.p)
5. From a point A, a ship 20 km due North to a point B. It then changes course
and sails 100 km due East to a point C. From C it sails 100 km on a bearing
of 210o to a point D.

On graph paper, and using a scale of 1 cm to represent 10 km, make a scale drawing of the ship’s course.
Use your scale drawing to find the distance in Km, of D from A in a straight line.
Use your protractor to find the bearing of D from A.

(a) The distance of D from A is km(2sig.fig).
(b) The bearing of D from A is degrees.
6. Find the area of the triangle formed by the inter section of the lines y = x,
x + y = 10 and x = 0.
The area is cm2.
7. A bus left Kampala at 8.00a.m and traveled towards Iganga at an average speed of
80km/h. After the bus has travelled a distance of 40km a car left Iganga towards
Kampala at an average speed of 120km/h. Given that the distance between Kampala
and Iganga is 400km.
Draw a distance - time graph and fill in the following;
a) The time the car arrived in Kampala is a.m.
b) The time the two vehicles met is a.m.
c) The distance from Kampala to the meeting point is km.
d) The distance of the bus from Iganga when the car arrived in Kampala is km.
e) The difference in times of arrival of the two vehicles is hour and minutes.
